Hi all

I want a HD bumper for the rear of my discovery 1 300tdi but have a problem. On my mates he has 2 indicators in the bumper and 2 in the light cluster? But on my truck I only have 2 in the bumper? Any ideas my rear lights are all red apart from the white reverse strip where his has a orange band for the indicators bit

They were deleted on later post 97 MY if you want the extra lamps you nees to retrofit older light clusters and the extra wires I believe.

I went the other way round and fitted a 300 bumper on my 200 for the extra lamps.

One of the early 1995MY 300s then, but still no different to what u have been told above, fit a light cluster to suit what u want.

So if I get a cluster with the indicators in it could I just pull the wire back into the cab that goes to the bumper indicators and use this in the new cluster as the HD bumper will have no lights in them at all?

Exactly :) U may have to extent the wires, also have the connectors/terminals at the rear of the light fitting if required that is.

Yea will have to have a look when I find a couple of clusters what I will need to get it to work cheers all.

Hi, on the couple I have done all the wiring was in place and even connected to the light fitting plug. I bought from ***bay the older clusters with the indicator sections and fitted them with all new bulbs, unplugged the original light clusters and discarded them, offered up the replacements and plugged them in, tested all ok and then fixed to the vehicle, replaced rear light covers and refitted seats. Job done, no wiring mods needed. If the vehicle has not got the heavy duty indicator relay (fitted to vehicles with towing kit) then I would replace the relay with the heavy duty one. Note; technically, the extra indicators are not original and may cause a slight problem come MOT time, mine not yet.

Are these what you're after? I can take them off and give them a good clean, you can also have as much of the loom as I can cut off which will give you the connectors to drop me an PM with an offer

yea them are the ones i need, can anyone with the above lights take a picture of the back where the bulbs and connector is so i can see if its similar to my current one

Hi, the back of the light fitting is a plastic cover with all wiring bars built in. The plug is the same in all cases that I have seen and is plastic and about 3 ins long, it simply plugs into the "new" one. When Land Rover were banned by the EC for fitting the older style because it is possible for the open back door to obscure the RH lights, they merely brought out the "new" one without yellow clusters and removed the surplus bulbs. Result no lights to the rear at all so bumper lights were fitted. I assume it was not worth the re-tooling costs to remove the wiring so it continued to be fitted but never referred to. The Mitsubishi of the time had similar problems and solution.

hopefully if i can find some with the indicators built into them and add these to my truck they will work straight away then ?????

This is from my own build.

The green and white trace is the RH indicator wire, remove the little cover to see if you have the wire in the connector if not then re-route the wires from the bumper lamps to the connector and job is a good un ;)

ok jut looked at i have this green/white wire on the driver side light but not the left hand passenger side one, so i may have it there ? and hopefully the left side is wired differently ?

The issue of obscuring the tail lamps was with the 200 series, therefore additional lamps were fitted into the rear bumper.
When the 300 1995MY series arrived L R continued with this bumper arrangement but also omitted the yellow/amber segment in the tail lamp, because of customer feedback L R was prompted to revert back to the 200 series lamp arrangement therefor four indicators, L R dealers offered a rewire service for the early 300s, but when the 1996MY arrived it was standard until the 1998MY was introduced which didn't have an indicator in the upper light cluster.

So for the 300s it was only two model years that had this tail light arrangement.
