Leaks an prone to bits dropping off
Doing my head in now and effectively grounded :(

Saturday pm the n/s indicators disappeared so I took the dash panel off to check connections, found the relay with some very wobbly spades and one snapped off as soon as I touched it.

Fair enough I thought, I just need another 4 pin flasher relay...

Finally got one today but for the life of me I cant make any sense of the wiring. There's no visible markings on the old relay but it's only 4 wires and I have a multimeter so how hard can it be.....?

So what I have is...

1 black direct to ground.
1 white live switched from the ignition
2 brown/black crimped together no voltage reading ignition on or off (presumably feed to indicators)
1 brown/yellow that's permanent live and I have no idea why or what this is??

Anyone rather less stupid than me shed any light?

Flashing light preferably

Off the top of my head I thiink brown /yellow may be indicator feed as they will be on straight away and flash off, the other one could be the dash light.

I have a 4 pin relay as that's what was there before.

I have C2, 31, 49 and 49a

Brown/yellow is live with ignition on and off which doesn't make sense in my head.

Yeah thanks, think I'm going to have to pull the column and rest of the dash apart to follow wires as best I can, they all disappear into the loom behind the centre panel except the earth.

It doesn't help that it's dark before I finish work, can't afford to take time off work and need the vehicle

Can't quite believe something so stupid has put me off the road.

Concerning your permanent live wire - are you sure the relay is for the indicators - could it be for hazard warning lamps?

I have the same numbers on the relay I have fitted to my series 3 connections shown in attached diagram. C2 is the trailer repeater light for when towing.

Off the road??? Hand signals still work.
Perhaps indicators are still in use in Gloucestershire, I can asusure you in Slough they are so yesterday. Can't recall when I last saw a driver indicate...

Flapping yer arm out of the window of a Series is not only tricky but gets some interesting reactions....none of which appear related to an impending change of direction :p

Sorted now, gave up and soldered a wire to the broken stub of the spade on the the old relay and all appears to work normally
