Hi
I'm looking to buy an older discovery! Around the age 2000/2001 I want it purely to tow a horse box and to get about the various horsey events with out getting stuck in the mud! I currently use my work transit van (rear wheel driven) it's not the best off road vehicle - even in the summer months I'm sick of getting stuck! So my budget isn't huge! I want to spend £2.5k - £3k what should I look out for? I'm happy to have a bit of a tinker cars however electrics aren't my strong point! And I see that age of disco and have ECU issues? Can any one give me any pointers - a friend said get a shogun! I'm a landy fan but never owned my one! My farther had a brand new 2004 (facelift) discovery and I had the pleasure of driving that a few times and that's what set me off! But! It was a brand new one! - I'm looking at a 13/14 year old vehicle - how do they age?

A good 60%+ of the horsey set down my way use TD5s, Shotguns actually towing are getting like hens teeth. So I think you're on the right lines.

hi,type what you want to know in the search box and its all there, its very educational and helpful.:)

WELCOME! Body wise, they're very good and age well. However, chassis wise, the arse rots off them, hence the availability of rear chassis repair rails.

TD5 engines can have troubles, but then again most infernal (spelling intended!) combustion engines have their fair share of problems. Anyway, most of the early TD5 engines should have gone bang by now...

If you get a dodgy wheel bearing on a Disco 2 then you have to replace the entire hub; they're integral with the bearings.

Have a look around the Discovery section for more info.
