hello there people, im on the look out for a defender 110 and looking for abit of advice before I go and buy one in a few months.
im a bricklayer and will use it for driving to site etc so needs to be a reliable model. i will want to do a gas conversion on it so it is cheap to run.
the reason for a 110 over a 90 is just the amount of space in the back for the tools mainly the long profiles we use.
the reason i havent gone for a van is because of the amount of seating and because I would like from time to time do something alittle different from the norm to me which is to have a go at green laneing and other offroad activities.
i havent set a budget yet but didn't really want to spend above 6000
after looking over pistonheads and autotrader I found myself lost with the engines/spec etc so...
please any advice/help will be useful to me

arr thought veg oil was the same (thought you can get pulled for veg oil because your not paying taxies etc), didnt know that
 
So long as it is in the 2500 liter limit there is no problem forgot to add if you use red chances are you landy will get seized there and then if you have no ligitament reason to have it.

Look for major oil leaks, Crunchy gear changes, rotten chassis especially rear ends. rusty bulkheads (or filler in bulkhead) All are easy enough to repair. but can be used to reduce asking price. £6k will get you a good TD5 but they have more electrics and more to go wrong with them

cheers mate will take note of those points.
looking for one as cheap as poss really just wasn't sure what engine to look for so didn't set a price other than not to go over 6k.
just need the most reliable defender model I can thats good for road use (economy) and great for the offroad challenges I would like to have a look into.

What about an old series? Economy is similar, rust spots are similar, comfort is similar - if not a little more basic - but you will get cheaper insurance, a much more basic vehicle and maybe even tax free!

Mot's are great as long as it has no holes it shouldn't have, the brakes and lights work, and the tyres ok - off she goes! No emissions to worry about or sensors...flat battery one morning? Get the starter handles out!! lol!

I know what you mean mate but I know I might get a stoneing for this and I know the defender isn't the best looking 4x4 but the the series to me look bloody fugly lol sorry
