I've heard of somebody be4 taking the td4 thermostat out because it's in the wrong place??? And putting 1 in the top hose??? Don't know if this is correct just something somebody told me they had done

Its behind the water pump and requires the offside front wheel to be taken off to access it. I hate the placing of the damn thing!

I did this to get me through the winter months, easy to do and works well, done 5k with no issues. I got mine at euro car parts it was from a Renault 5 1.4 I believe.

job done working great temp sits at half way and heater nice and warm. very tight fit in the top hose as its slightly different on the auto td4, the thermosat is 83c for a old renault 5 :D

Thanks for this thread and the pictures. I believe that my thermostat is stuck partially open. Its a TD4 Auto and and the heater don't work.

The heater hoses get hot, and the temp gauge sits at half way, it just been freezing all winter. Changing the stat is a four hour job, and is a bugger to do at home. So thats 4*£60 labour for a £10 stat!!!!!

Might give this a go!

hi...if you havent yet change pollen filter maybe blocking warm air in the heater . if the temp is up to half way i dont think the thermostat is the fault .

Hi,

Think I'm going to do this - my TD4's temp gauge is starting to be a little less stable than previously. Although the car gets to temperature quickly enough, when you go down a long-ish hill the temp gauge quickly moves to 1/4 warm.

Don't fancy the 4 hr job to replace the factory themostat - in-line still working for you?

EDIT: Can you confirm which way round the thermostat goes in the hose?

didnt realise the 2L td4 BMW engine had a thermostat problem ? I have had to replace one thermostat for td4 in a freelander , never had problem with rover 75 cdti or other freelanders.
