Having just imported a D2 from the UK ( got my full carte grise 2 days ago ) here's my 2c worth!
Having a typical rear chassis, no VIN number visible, I visited my local Controle Technique centre to consult on the best way to go.
Answer at mine was, " It's a Discovery 2, what do you expect? Restamp it yourself or get a garage to do it for you! "
So I got my local garagiste to do it for me for 20€, cheaper than buying the stamps. Other than that, swap your headlamps, early ones, I got a 2nd hand pair for 60€, but I believe that 300tdi ones fit and they're quite cheap new.
Make sure that each axle has matching tyres on each wheel, front to back can be different.
Quittus fiscale was 5 minutes, happy with a translation of my receipt, the original was a handwritten page torn out of a day to view A4 diary!
The Certificate of Conformity is where I had problems.
Before anyone says yes but, remember it's a French fonctionnaire you're dealing with an reason, the law and common sense mean absolutely rien!
I had a Landrover UK coc, sent my dossier in and was issued a temporary immatriculation number ( a WW plate )
My dossier was returned as the type, Land Rover Discovery ll TD5 S resulted in ordinateur dit non!
Despite all efforts, I was told I would have to get a French coc from Landrover France, having already supplied the UK one at £100, I was less than impressed at having to spend 240€, yes 240€ for effectively a single page letter on headed paper, before my dossier was accepted. To be fair, it only took about 12 days for it to come back with the new immatriculation number so she's now fully naturalised.
To counter this, one of my mates immatriculated his D2 on the UK coc with no issues like mine.
It all depends on who picks your dossier up and this was my first awkward fonctionnaire in 4 years here so I can't moan too much!
