Hi

My tool collection is growing weekly, but exclusively in metric sizes. Will there be a need for a set of imperial/AF sockets to work on a 1992 90?

I have a 1990 90 and I used to find some imperial stuff on it, not since the rebuild though!

I seem to remember the gearbox cross member bolts were imperial and other brackets and things.

I would have thought not though.

only the prop nuts and bolts and a few switches etc are imperial on a defender the rest are metric ,though there are some were imperial fits well enough

Cheers for that - I will just buy the odd loose socket etc as I need them

If you're taking off props, a propshaft tool makes it easier. I have a 92 Defender and haven't found any other imperial fasteners on it yet

I use a imperials where nuts have rusted, theres usually an imperial thats slightly too small/tight fit that I knock on to get a better grip.

1/2" 12-point or bi-hex for disc caliper bolt heads.

(Thanks James, I'd been using 13mm which fits loosely ..)

Land rover traditionally hang on to 'obsolete' fixings. You can still find whitworth stuff on older models long after everyone else had stopped using it and the same with Imperial AF.
