Well, guys, I bit the bullet. :):) Thanks for all you help - last night I put a deposit down on a sexy black td4 adventurer, 56 plate. Hopefully it will arrive next week.

I haggled hard, and got over 3k off the price. I shall now be eating bread and cheese for the next year, and selling my granny, as I try and add the bits I'd like.

So, any advice on what to start with additions? I was thinking of having the back windows darkened before the summer sets in. How much do body mouldings cost? (is that what they call the plastic stripes that go down the sides??) A-bar? Do sidesteps lower the off-road ability?

If you have these things fitted at an independent fitter, does that invalidate the warranty in any way? If anyone knows of a good independent place in east Dorset, let me know.

ah well done cowgirl un welcome to the world er landy un the maddest forum on the web. . .if you need help ,then loads on here jist ask. . . .:) :) :)

Hi there

Well done on your purchase. You will enjoy the Freelander.

What model have you got?

Hopefully you will have done the sensible thing and got a petrol model. The diesel models are very unreliable and I would never buy another one. Apparently the BMW version was worst of all.

Apart from that there is not much to worry about. Oh, there was a problem with ne of the colours. Causes it all to fall off, especially in southern, chalky areas of the country. There was a defect in the paint they used one year. It affeted a batch of cars in mid 2006. It only affected one colour, black I think. Most of them were OK but the dodgy painted batch were sold off cheap as special additions called "Adventerers" or something.

;)

Sorry, only kidding.

Have fun

Blippie

Thanks Blippie. Yes, it's a bmw, diesel td4, so it looks like I'm really bu88ered. Do you think it's too late to change to a 1.8 petrol...maybe in pink?

Naah, not to late chuck, just make sure that you've got the early gasket fitted, the new later ones are a waste of time...see head gasket failures...bleeding GL's
