I need help! Not in a medical sense but in I have recently brought a disco 2 and now the issues are starting.
When I first brought her, she was making a horrible noise. Turned out to be the front prop shaft. This has been repaired, but now she wants to start causing issues with the central logging and the immobilizer struggling to disengage. (I don't think for a minute that this is related to the new prop shaft before someone says it!)
So, when I first brought her, she would fire up on the turn of the key by canceling the immobilizer with the key 'land rover' button. She locked and unlocked with the key fob. Now she has stopped locking and unlocking with fob. Fob battery has been changed.
There feels like there is no lock in the master key lock in the driver door as the lock just spins round. The doors will lock and unlock on the rocker switch on the dash, but not with the key or the buttons so to me that has ruled out the central locking fuse.
Sometimes she will start first time and cancel the Immobilier first time. Other times, normally when people are watching or I have a car full of kids i will have to turn the key round to the starting position, hold it there, whilst pushing the key in and rapidly pressing the land rover button before the Immobilier finally cancels.
Once started i can actually remove the key from the ignition barrel and she keeps running.
Has anyone got any ideas when the issue could be, or has anyone had a simulier experience.

Quick update on my issue. I don't have a spare key, and unsure how to programme one with the lack of mechanism in the door lock. I have found that if I turn the key to.position 2 in the ignition and remove the key and hold it up by the module in the roof then the immobiliser cancels straight away. Is there ment to be another sensor down by the ignition barrel and if so could it be that one that is faulty?
 
You'll need a Nanocom or similar to programe a key. Nothing to do with the door lock (Except for the EKA)

You've got two problems there. The lock barrel is well and truly fubar.
It might as well not be there letting you start the car with a screwdriver.
The other is the immobiliser which others will tell you how to delete with a Nanocom, Foxwell or whatever.
Or you replace the dodgy roof sensor.
Replacing a lock barrel is easy peasy, but then you'll have yet another key to lug around! ;)
 
Hi, as @Stanleysteamer says I'd get the ignition switch changed with a good secondhand one or as 'we' have fit a replacement new one but it does entail keeping the original key on the same key ring so it can de-immobilise it.
This week I've had intermittent opening on mine & it turned out to be the microswitch on the keys circuit board slowly falling apart (see pic with new switch ready to fit ) luckily I have a spare key which works fine so it could be worth opening up the key to see if the 'opening' switch is still intact, all the best

You can buy kits ont internet with new key blanks and fob cases together with micro switches and even batteries.
All you have to do is swop the bits over into the new case and get a new key cut, or pull the old metal part of the key out of the old fob and shove it into the new fob case. If you can be assed. I just live with having a metal key that'll turn in the barrel attached to an old and empty fob to start the car while the circuit board etc is in the new case. I just have to push the unlock button again on the new fob if the engine won't start cos I left it too long after opening the door.

I got one of those kits as the rubber had disappeared on the key & I only used the case. If you look above the board that is the new microswitch waiting to go in I just haven't got a soldering iron to fit it :rolleyes:.
