Hi guys. My freelander1 td4 2003 diesel can't start. When the Key IS in the contact and l turn it to start the car. Nothing happened. But when I insist and maintain the Key on start position for about 20s then the ingine runs but doesn't start. I check with OBD 2 but no defaults. Some says the immobiliser ring IS not working well. Please Can someone help me?!
PS. Usually when I turn the Key in contact it takes less than 1s toi start quickly.
Thanks

Do the dash lights come on as normal before ypu turn the key to crank?

When you lock the car there is an led that flashes on the dash. What does this do when you turn the key to crank? If it lights up solid the car is immobilised.

The dash lights should come on and do their self test when you turn the key to the "ignition on" position. Pretty sure they go out while you then turn it to crank.

But if that flashing light does not illuminate continuous when you turn to crank, then the car should not be immobilised.

Worth getting thoughts of others, but I'd query the ignition switch - the round plastic switch that fits to the end of the ignition key barrel.

Immobiliser ?

When cranking do you hear the starter motor ?

When cranking what light are still on ?

Yes the starter runs when cranking but not immediately when I turn on the Key in the crank. I have to wait for several several seconds before the starter runs. Usually when I turn the Key on the starter runs automatically. It looks like the calculator doesn't receive correctly the signal from the key

The flash lights Come on and their self test IS ok.

Hello,

So the car doesn't start at all !
Before suspecting an immobiliser issue, we need some evidence.

When you put your key on starting, do you hear a click from the starter ?
So when the starter is running, does it run painfully or like it should ?
Did you tried to jump start the vehicle to be sure it's not a battery issue.

Hi
The car doesn't run at all now. But when the trouble happens first Time I insist and maintain the Key on start position about 20s then the engine runs and the car starts. Now After 20s the starter runs fine and the motor runs but the car doesn't start. Usually when I put the Key in the start position the starter runs automatically the engine runs and the car starts. I replace the battery

PS. Now the starter doesn't rien automatically and si does the engine and the car doesn't start

Now the starter doesn't run automatically when the Key IS maintained in start position. So does The engine and the car finally doesn't start

If it doesn't crank in the start position, then it's most likely to be the ignition switch, which are known to suffer contact burning, due to the grease becoming hard.

Hi guys my freelander 1td4 2003 IS still not running. It seems to be now a problem of ecu and start box files which are corrupted. Can anyone send me working files or tell a solution?
Thanks

For an ECU, you need to find professionnel that can repair it or replace it, you can’t do it yourself. Don’t touch that thing if you doesn’t have the knowledge.

What tells you that the issue is with ECU ?

Does it crank over?
Does it fire if you use a bit of easy start?
