can anyone give me advice on fixing/replacing this unit.

i currently have no E.windows/locking and key ignition

Cheers Compass

I take it you do have the key.
The electric windows would not be stopped by the immobiliser as it just inhibits the engine.
Does the warning lights work when you turn the key?

yeah

everything works apart from the electric windows, engintion & s.locking

all of the dash works, the heater works & lights etc

I can't check the RAVE for you as the 200Tdi isn't covered in it, but have you had a look at the fuses under the steering wheel, I very much doubt that the windows and ignition are on the same circuit... but I could always be wrong.:blabla: :blabla: :blabla:

Fuseable links may be, they are in the wraped up in the wiring next to the battery. they protect the wiring between the battery and the fuse boxes.

I'd get yourself down the doctor if you feel like this......
P.s where do you put the key??? :puke:

Hi I know this is no consolation but exactly the same has happened to mine, I ran a live from the cigarette lighter down to the starter relay so i can use it. Dont know if this helps good luck Les

And in an emergency you can connect a wire with 2 croc clips on each end. one goes to the battery term live and the other to the fuel shut off solenoid. Then using an insulated spanner touch the terminals on the starter solenoid, but watch yourself as lots of current...
Make sure you take the steering lock of first though, and to stop the engine, take the croc clip off the battery or stall it..

Did you manage to get the bottom of this myn has exactly same symtons except the s and m light on the dash appear aswell!

myns a disco 2 but i imagine the problem is probably the same!

Kind Regards,

Chris

Sounds to me like a faulty ignition switch - new one from Paddocks about £30.

I had this on Mr BL's Tdi 200, mucked me about for ages 'til I bit the bullet.

When fitting the new one I had the opportunity to rip out the wiring of the aftermarket immobiliser - all was well after that :D :D

I can tell you that the electric window fuses are bottom right on the fuse board, one for front, one for rear. two fuses, both 30amp

take the unit out, its a 200 tdi which means your system could be up to 20 yrs old... circuits corrode after a while, get rid of it

More than likely the fuseable links near battery. My 200 tdi had same symptoms. I cut all connections out and replaced with new crimped connections and had no more trouble.

hi i had problems with the windows on mine, it was acracked solder joint on the control unit for the windows ,passenger footwell..awkward to get to.
also the immobiliser will come on if you have a bump. this opens all locking, and disables all locking, and puts hazards on. this can be reset by removing one of the relays on the immobiliser box. and putting it back again.....i just love faults like this!!!

Hi, I had the same problem with my old 200tdi.
If you look at the rear of the battery a thick brown wire runs from battery over inner wing and splits into 4 seperate fuse wires and then back into 2 brown wires ( think from memory). they may be taped up or covered in some way . Jiggle them about and try starting then. I cut out these fuse wires and replaced with new wire and crimps. O r you could put in a fusebox. It solved my problem and appears to be a common fault,
Hope this helps

Yours is totally different believe me, for the ignition thing follow this procedure first to make sure it's not a passive immobilisaton issue:

SYMPTOM VERIFICATION OF ACTIVATED PASSIVE IMMOBILIZATION

1. Unlock the vehicle and wait one minute.
2. With the ignition off, verify that the anti-theft alarm LED in the instrument pack blinks slowly.
3. Turn the ignition key to position “II” and verify the alarm LED is on continuously. This indicates an
immobilized condition.
4. Check that Passive Immobilization is on by attempting to start the vehicle with the LED on continuously.
5. If the vehicle does
not start, confirm that Passive Immobilization is turned on as follows:

·
Turn off ignition and remove the key.

·
Press the unlock button on the plip once.

·
Attempt to restart the vehicle within 30 seconds.

·
If the vehicle starts normally, Passive Immobilization is activated. The BCU must be replaced or reprogrammed by Land Rover

and the most common for m and s lighty is this http://www.landroverclubvi.com/uplo..._manual_mode_light_illuminated_860403nasf.pdf

I know it has been some time since this was posted, but for the sake of others with this problem, try changing the starter relay, it worked for me!
