hi recently got another disco 2, this was a cheap buy as a project to do up, the nut case i brought it from had originally had problems with the abs, tc and hdc lights on the dash board coming on, we all know about these and how to cure it, common fault with d2s, but this fruit and nut thought he could get a pair of wire cutters and go snipping at the back of the instument cluster to get rid of lights, when that didnt work he took the cluster to bits and smashed the little bulbs with a screwdriver, this did stop the lights from comming on however the engine has never started since. he recons engine was running and starting even when snipping the wires but it all went titsup when he smashed the lights. anyway i had a cheap buy done most of the other work now need to get it started. i purchased a new pcb board for cluster, put it, turn on ignition all lights come up but no ignition when you turn the key, i also notice that there is no immobiliser light comming on, so does anyone know if what this idiot done would have buggered the immobiliser or does anyone know how i can reset it, cant do it by key in door because there is no light on dash working to go by. any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated cause im stuck, it may be coincidence and something else is wrong so any ideas please.
many thanks.:)

By George! ...what a botcher:doh: ... god knows what he did there, maybe he disturbed the alarm's LED feed too. If all the lights on the dash are working it means the LED must get feed aswell...it's earth path is supplyed by the BCU.... how familiar are you with electrics? ...i dont wanna speak in vain cos it's quite complicated.... first of all check the following fuses in the passenger compartment fusebox: F20, F21, F23, F29.(that's the easy part) ... if all fuses are good and u are up to make measurements with multimeter along several connectors and wires we'll speak again, i'll try to help you somehow...the best thing is to check the nanocom locator maybe u find a helpfull chap to plug in the tester to make sure what's the alarm status
Two questions:
1. look to the odometer with ignition on, is it flashing or still ?
2. does the central locking work (on fob or switch)?

hi sierrafery, many thanks for your help mate, iv been pulling my hair out on this one, great to know someone out there is prepared to try and help me, so cheers for that. the odometer was still and showing a weird signal of a zero with a slash through it and the central locking would not work by the key fob or switch, however after checking all the fuses you mentioned which were ok this must of disturbed something cause now the central locking works on fob and switch, immobiliser lights is flashing a steady pace but when you try to start the engine the starter try s to turn and then cuts out at the same time lights on dash and right-hand indicator light flash, including trailer light and abs light,
also when you turn the ignition off the sports mode and manual mode lights flash in time with the immobiliser light then die of after about 1 minute, these also flash when locking the doors by fob or switch. the odometor is now flashing o and showing 0.0km beneath it,(still), so it is now trying to start but seems the electrics all going to the wrong places, im pretty good with engines but not so hot with electrics but i will have a go if you got any ideas, many thanks again.:)

Not good.... there is a bad comunication between the fusebox(IDM) and the BCU then... disconect battery, remove the fusebox(passenger comp.) and check for corrosion/bad contact within all plugs(give them a contact spray anyway... u have to be tricky to open this fusebox but if u can manage that would be good to see if no water ingress/corrosion within) ... afteru plug bach the fusebox turn ignition on pos II and leave it so 5 minutes to regain comunication with BCU)...if everything is OK there see if no water ingress at the BCU(behind the glovebox).... what about the red LED now did it come back?

the odometer flashing is normal cos the replacement instrument pack has different mileage than the one stored in the BCU....to plug in a tester and run circuit tests would be a big help though
