Yikes James! Good job you have kept that from her in door! :)

Did you buy the first one you looked at!? :jaw::p

Tom

Yep - you guessed it. Mum and Dad lent me £3000 as my 03 Transit blew a turbo then run out of fuel and no one could start it (Poxy common rail injection!!)

Was desperate for a vehicle to get to work and a defender had always been a dream. 2 passenger seats in a transit ain enough when you've got 5 mini me's to cart around!!! SO yeah - bought blind off ebay and they delivered it(Now I know why!!)
Good job I can do all the work myself (thats half the fun)

Never had a 200 but I read that its a great engine and 300 is based on it

Good Luck mate.

Thanks James. I'm glad you took the smiles the right way! I was worried you'd started on a sarcastic line for a brief moment when i started reading!

We've all bought the 'wrong one' at some point I bet! I know I have!

Well I started to edit the thread heading and make a new reply when my phone rings...

The landy i put a deposit on last week (that was to be sold with 12mths MOT) wants a lot of welding!!

I knew it needed a new outrigger, but could see much else wrong with the chassis. Still, it was wet and in a farm yard full of puddles, so I agreed to pay what he wanted if a new ticket was put on it!

So, long story short, I have agreed a much lower price for her with no MOT and i'm taking the plunge into land rover ownership with both feet!

Hopefully I'll get some pics up on Monday/Tuesday when I have the keys in my hand.

Pretty much how I bought my 110. The guy had it MOT'd whilst I was there to look at it, and it failed on a corroded outrigger and lots of other little bits and pieces. Bought it cheap, got a mate to do the outrigger (chassis is sound other than that, and it had a new rear crossmember about a year previous), and did all the other bits and pieces myself. Ended up with a half decent 110 CSW for a good price :)

Sounds very similar - this has a new rear cross member too!

It's got 101k, and is pretty straight, so hopefully the £3k I have agreed will turn out to be a fair deal - we'll see!

I have the chance to walk away with my deposit if I really don'y like what i see under it when I get a better chance to look under it on the weekend, but I think she is the one! :)

I must get off ebay now before i buy things before I have enough taken ownership!

Tom

Bought it!!! :)

The welding required isn't too bad, and to be honest I think I got a good deal. See what you think...

£3000

100k original 200tdi
Recon box
Very good doors and body work
Few plates needed and bits and pieces here and there (like a bumper for starters!) for MOT

Questions:

Can i edit the thread title - 'go advanced' just edits the reply title..?

I need to spray the grille and light surrounds, but i'm unsure on what is the best paint - any advise?

Welding - will take pics and upload them next week, but for starters, is 2mm mild steel thick enough plate for small holes in the chassis?

Thanks in advance

Tom

I painted my grille and light surrounds with 'Simoniz tough black' satin:

Simoniz Tough Paint 500ml - Black Satin:Amazon:Car & Motorbike

Gives a lovely satin finish that looks like fresh factory original plastic, and seems very durable so far.

Great -thank you.

My new lens set just arrived - all eight pieces for £9 delivered :)

I'm not looking to make it a show vehicle, just smart...

Anyone know the paint colour of the OEM steels - at least i think i have the original off-white/cream - not that it probably makes odds what shade i spray them!

Cheers
Tom
