Ok, 300tdi 1994 disco 1, rev counter is erratic...seems to work ok in 1st to 3rd til 3000rpm then stops completely..or occasionally springs into life for 5 seconds then stops again..

Are these the cable type onto the gearbox and if so can the inner cable be changed without taking the clocks/dash apart..i.e feeding it back from the gearbox?

check the wiring on the back of the alternator the speedo is cable but the rev counter is electronic off of the W terminal normally

Cheers G, not used to these fancy motors...i am used to changing gear when no further acceleration is available..ie. 10mph, 20mph, 30mph and lastly 40mph...

it could be you alterynator that is buggered or your clocks or your wiring but the first place to look is the connection on the back of the alternator

Spade terminal on the back of the alternator loose!

Or could be the alternator on its way out , it did it with mine when alty packed in . gradually got worse then stopped and i ran out of electricity :doh:
