Desperately in need of some advice,i own a 300tdi auto and a couple of days ago when i turned the ignition key it sounded like my starter was on the way out(loads of clicking) .i've replaced the starter for another that iknew worked and still suffered the same problem. Now to make matters worse i finished work today and now i'm not getting anything,i've checked all the wires going to the starter and the connections are all clean and fitted correctly,........i've tried the starter via a direct feed to the battery and it turns every time.
So i was wondering if anyone has/had the same problem or if any one could suggest anything to remedy the problem ,,i wait with baited breath thanks in advance:(:(:(

I know its not the battery as ive turned the starter and got he shed home by wiring the stater to t he battery just to fire the car car up,ive also just had my mate on the phone he said it could be the starter inhibitor,or dodgy wires going to the back of the ignition barrel???any ideas?

make sure that the earth is getting good contact with chassis, and all the terminals are nice and clean, give the battery terms a good clean too. i had this before on a car, it would jump start then die 3 miles down the road, took the dash apart only to find it was dirty terminals.

Or could be a dodgy ING barrel switch maybe. chin up you'll get there.

Isn't the clicking sound a relay? Is there a relay in the circuit that was dying and is now dead? Did wiring the starter motor directly to the battery by-pass the relay? What about the starter solonoid? Same thing, is it poorly and you by-passed it?

I've not got my haynes manual to hand to check this and haven't had to work on the starter circuits on my car, so just guessing here.

it only starts in park/nut,try bypassing switch on g/box but if it is that better change switch don't just bypass it.

before you try that pull/push g/lever in park 1st
