Hi all,

Reading various things over the years I've been left with the opinion that the reason so many Rover V8's incur overheating problems is due to issues with the Liners? weather they have slipped or cracks occur behind them letting water in...etc

Also, that RR are more susceptible as they run a hotter than disco's, and that LPG increases the Temp inside the block further increasing the problem?

Just wanted to know if this is information is correct or if i'm missing anything??

Thanks,

Rich

over heating is down to a few issues ,inefficient rads ,faulty thermostats ,poor viscous fans ,generally poor cooling system ,over heating can cause blocks to crack behind liners giving head gasket failure symptoms ,all the v8s since the 3.9 were they bored out another 200 thou from the 3.5 block to fit the wider liner are prone for blocks to crack ,anything that increases heat is likely to increase the chance of block to crack, some not long out of the factory others 15 years later

Much as James has said above, but there are other issues.

Improper coolant, lack of proper maintenance and generally trying to run a relatively expensive car on a shoestring budget.

If you can't afford to look after the truck properly, don't go there.

Because they are so cheap now, people think they are cheap to run and repair, but even with today's cheap spares they still need a decent amount of looking after for what is a complex piece of machinery.

We have still got the original radiator in our 1998 build Discovery 2 V8, it hasn't given the slightest bit of trouble since we rebuilt the engine, we tow a lot and run on LPG, not a problem at all. Correct OAT coolant is critical.
