Hi all, would anyone happen to know the laws on changing your three front seats into one long bench seat still with three seat belts.

the dogs have eaten all but one seat base and i have been thinking of making up the framework to add a bench and then just a bit of sale cloth over some foam stapled to a fibre board base. (and a dog guard!)

cheers - W

Got the back seats out o' a RRC in mine and have had no probs with MOT's or insurance;)

I belive that the drivers seat ( or whole bench) needs to slide back and forward ( not for mot but to be road legal) and if you have a 3 door with rear seats the drivers atleast have to tilt forward but lock in the upright.

Ah think there might be one wee flaw in that.... The rear bulkhead!
That sounds ok fur normal cars, but not sure if it would work on a 3 door Defender.
All ah know is, ah've not had any probs with MOT or insurance wi' the seats ah've got in;)

Might want tae consider access tae yer battery... like a 60-40 bench seat;)

Should be legal as long as the insurance is notified as it is a modification. I had one in my pick up, no problems at all, just make sure the thing slides sufficiently or the base lifts up for access to the battery

thinking of putting rear disco seat in my 90 and using the front hinge on right hand side to give access to battery ,got to look at how much welding it will take though.

Yeah i know that was just saying, a landy has a proper rear door thou ;)

Access to the battery could be from a removable cushion similar to OE design
