Hi guys just a quick one. Bought a 2.25 deisel the other day to strip down. Out of curiosity i stuck a battery on it to see if it starts and after 10 years of being sat rotting it did! Trouble was when i turned it off and took the key out the engine was still running. Does this happen if someones fitted a petrol ignition? Thanks

the pump is mechanically stopped normally via a cable looks like a choke cable pull it out and engine stops presuming its still attached to the pump of course

Did you shove in the stop push?

Diesels only use electrickery to start on the 2.25 as opposed to the 2.5 et al. To start you need to pull out the engine stop knob, and then shove it back in to stop the engine.

This actuates the fuel cutoff valve on the CAV DPA pump.

In short, all you need to do is make sure the fuel cutoff valve is set up and working properly.

Alan.

mine has a stop cable that goes to the same piece of kit the accelerator cable goes to only lower down, you just pull it to stop the engine, appears to be some form of flap which I guess shuts off the flow of air etc

Aah i thought that was a choke but did wonder why a deisel would need a choke. Thanks for the help guys is my first 2.25 so was new to me
