How do I know what ignition system I have?
I can’t see any marking on the dizzy. It has a brown cap so I’m assuming it’s a Ducelier?
Also how do you know if your engine is high or low compression?
It’s a 1975 Series 3.

Thanks

Norrie.

Hi there the duceiller dizzy has the condenser on the outside of the body, as for CR the head has a raised section on the manifold side between the two centre outside head studs ,this would be stamped 7 or 8 ,or if its an earlier engine there is no raised section and would be low compression.

Ok so is a Duceiller dizzy then?

The head has a raise section but I can't see any numbers stamped on it. However I have now Googled the engine no which starts with 901 which indicates it's a hp engine. It's just I ordered plugs from Paddocks for an hp engine and the thread is too big.

I just upgrade my ignition system recently. The landy was struggling to start on turn over. So decided to renew all the ignition i got rid of the old distributor, points and condensor and plugs and bought a new electronic distributor with leads coil and plugs from power spark. I also changed the starter motor on the landy along with a new solenoid. She now starts first which is a relief. What should have been a straight forward easy-ish job did kinda detour a little bit which I was a little disappointed. But it got there in the end

Well once I changed for electronic ignition i thought job done nope notvat all lol the starter motor went on landy then whilst out and about brother had to tow me home. Once new starter motor was put on the solenoid decided he wanted to pack up then, one of the spades came off tried to resolder but no good ordered a new one brill. It was a right comedy lol the wife wasn't a happy bunny though.

Cool. Glad you got it sorted in the end. At least parts are cheap. If that was a modern car it would have cost about 2 grand.

Yeah was a lot cheaper
Electronic ignition set coil leads plugs and distributor £100

Starter motor £85

Solenoid £5

All for under £200
