I’m powering my dashcam off the cigar lighter supply which is switched. To avoid cutting the harness, I made a lead that plugs between the cigar lighter and its plug on the harness. I’m using two 12v-USB modules (for dashcam and phone) and then regular usb cables to the devices. It’s not a long distance between from the centre console,and under the windscreen trim and headliner to the mirror.
I recommend the B40 Pro dashcam. It fits neatly behind the mirror and is practically invisible. I tried using a Transcend dashcam first but the mounting isn’t designed well. It also needs its own bulky cigar power adapter and wouldn’t power up with any of the USB power adapters I tried.

Thanks for those dashcam & bits links - interesting to see how you've done it.
Do you have the USB sockets poking out by the mirror for the camera to plug into or do you run the camera's USB cable down to the console and have the sockets there?
What's the mount like for the B40? I tried a 'generic' suction pad mount on the windscreen with my phone with a downloaded app and the video jumps like crazy - its useless.

The sockets are inside the dash / console. There is plenty of space behind the console and the modules are very compact.
The dashcam mounts flush against the windscreen with a sticky tape pad and the lens can be adjusted up or down to suit the slope of the windscreen. There is enough clearance in front of the mirror so that it is barely visible inside or outside the vehicle, yet has a perfect view of the road as it is right in the centre. Most of the dashcams I've seen use a sat nav style mount which takes up far too much space, especially if you plan on mounting a phone or sat nav.
I'm using a custom fit mount for my phone and it works well for Google Maps and Spotify. I did try using a dash cam app, but it seemed to strain the device and was a nuisance to remember to use. With the dash cam, it's all automatic.

I have a Mini 805 [as reviewed by Techmoan] mounted beside the RV mirror. I ran the power cable up to the camera via the A pillar and across the hood lining. I left the st'd plugs on the end and leave it plugged into the cig' power socket. Video is saved to a 32Gb micro SD card.
