Hi,
On my L322 it is stuck in park, i can release it to neutral but only good for pushing it about.
Key will not turn past one click which releases the steering lock then i can pull key out and start with a screwdriver but still stuck in park.
I have a new lock and keys to fit but worried if not coded it will disable car totally.
Diagnostics say key not present

What year?

When did it start doing this?

Did you change the battery and then it started playing up?

J

Yep but where is it;) I believe they are loose in the fob so can be lost.
perhaps i should have said fob battery
Was thinking you may pick it up
J

I guess it could have fell out of the fob? I wonder if the OP has a spare key?
I haven't played with the key transponder and pickup so don't know what is coded to what. I don't see how it could start with a screwdriver without the transponder near the ignition barrel though.

The key is next to the ignition cos i've took it out to put the screwdriver in.
Has anyone got a solution to this ?

Key works to position 1 but not position 2, screwdriver works from position 1 to position 2, this sounds strange to me. Does the diagnostics see the key when it's next to the ignition?
Do you hear a click when when you put the key in the ignition?

Put key in ignition, turn to pos one and steering lock clicks off. Box is off back of ignition that the screwdriver goes in and starts it

Diags do not see the key. I have a new lock with keys to fit but don't want to fit til i can get someone out to recode it

Bloody ads are doing my head in

The ads pay for your free advice for what it's worth.

Don't quote me on this but you may be able to take the transponder out of the old key and put it in the new one. I don't think you can code a new transponder to the old ECU.
IMO the car/immobiliser must be seeing the key or the car wouldn't start so maybe your diagnostics are not working correctly.

Also the odd please and thank you may get others to help that have had similar issues.

I do agree that the odd please and thank you is in order. I am still trying to get a solution to what i thought would be an easy fix and overlooked the appreciation and will be very grateful when i get a solution.
As for the ads i only commented because i lose track of where i am trying to delete them. No fun getting old.
As for your suggestion thank you i will look into it.

Unfortunately easy fixes and Range Rovers are usually mutually exclusive. Yes the ads are a pain but you can stop them with an ad blocker.
What you are saying seems strange to me in that you can start it with a screwdriver but not the key even though the key turns, that to me would suggest that the barrel is faulty where it connects to the back bit.
As I say you may be able to swap the lock and move the transponder from the old key to the new one. New keys are dealer only as they are coded to the cars ECU.

Thank you, maybe try to swap barrels from the new one and put transponder from old key in the new key. Does that sound feasable if at all possible. Car wont drive so can't get it to the stealership

I've never tried it but I assume you can always put it back to how it was if it's doesn't work.
If you can get it out of park (as said in your first post) and the steering lock comes off and you can start it with a screwdriver it does seem to point to the ignition barrel to me.
