Hi
My flip key is tired and in need of a change. Also it is the only key I have which is worrying.
I have noted the guys that replace the case and swap the guts over but I am loath to send off my only key.I also guess they use the same blade. I have also seen 'Keys in the post' for a spare but I don't think that would be anything more than a lock opener without a transponder to start the car.
So really the question is any suggestions?

You can buy replacement keys, just make sure you order #2 if your key is #1.
Not cheap tho, but I'll be getting one before too long as I'm in the same position.
You can also get blanks that you can transfer the insides and blade ro
 
Only place to get a new key is the stealers. Best get one or you will regret it. Or contact the previous owner. You never know. I did with the Jag and got lucky. The Rangie I had to buy, once they'd brought me round and I realised where I was.

If the number has worn off the back of the fob you can use the memory seat to work out which you have.
 
To refurb the old one, if you don't want to do it yourself then send it to MrSporty on here.
 
If you had a Nanocom, you could turn off the EKA code and the immobiliser, the car would then operate with just a key blade and no FOB.

Thats why there called stealers, will fleece you for what ever they can get away with.
the new keys come from Huff the original manufacturer and are ready to go no programming needed.
 
I do need to get one, don't like being with only one fob. I know you can turn the immobiliser off but using the key in the door every day doesn't sound too clever from what I've heard
 
hi lads ok , number 1 . to refurb send it to Mr Sporty ,, totally recommended for a long time , give him all the info he needs , the key will work as normal on return , no re-sync required !!!!! number 2 . to get one from main dealer go to spares dept with your v5 (log book) your key and if thats the only key you have ask them to order number 4 key !!!!!!! reasons why you order no 4 unless you have the history of how many keys have been issued in the past there is..possible operating problem on sequence ,,... approx. cost these days , around £200 . . they order it from HUFF in germany and usually takes 2 days and its delivered to your dealer who will ring you when it arrives ,,, go smile at the parts man he gives it to you take to car unlock and enter turn ignition & drive off very happy . absolute no re-sync with diagnostic machine required ,, some unscrupulous stealers will charge but if you let them .MORE fool you . so I hope I have explained both options clearly … there is no quick cheap fixes on fleabay or anywhere else .apart from deleting EKA and imobisor system off the becm by way of nanocam ???? poss future problems doing that ok i f anyone doubts the above options then good luck with the future sorting your rangie out ,, I do know what im talking about !!!!! especially with re-syncs keys and becm operating systems ,, kind regards Mozz
 
Thanks for the detailed info mozz. Sorry if it's a stupid question, but why can't you request a replacement #1 key if you know you have a #2 key?
 
As said send to Mr sporty for key refurb,very fast turn around.

Hi Kermit , it actually a decision based on exactly what key you have and how many keys you have , 99% of owners with 2 keys will have key 1 & key 2 as issued when new , if later on you forget the numbers or sell the vech on . then new owner " might lose 1 key so its practical to order no 3 or 4 as these would probably never been issued , so the problem is financial .because if you have say key1 and don't no that but you order new key & request no1 & it doesn't work ,then you wont get a exchange of key or refund cos you ordered the wrong 1 , thats why I say order 3 or 4 . so you just wasted ??? £200.00 a pain in arse but thats wat it is . as said earier you can check key i.e. on seat memory SEE RAVE or handbook . that tells you everything , hope this helps nice to hear from you kind regards MOZZ

Thanks :) makes sense, don't need to throw money away! In my case I'm sure i have key 2, confirmed with seat memory
