When you spray the cleaner as well as graphite in did you put key in an cycle a few times ?
Try a few gentle taps with a
Small ball pain hammer on barrel if its stuck it might just let it pop
Out for lubrication to be coated on

Or you try a small nail file I would imagine as
You put key in barrel the tip of the key is what pushes the pin is by gently scraping inside you
Might just loosen crud that's blocking it

Given it a few jolts with hammer and had a good poke around inside.
Sprayed lots of cleaner in there but it still thinks the key is in
Don't know what else I can do - it looks really clean in there.
If I can find a new barrel (which I haven't yet) it will dot match the door.
Is there a wire I could detach from the barrel to fool it - I am hardly going to lock the key inside. Just a thought.

Steve been looking playing with my barrel last night the spring loaded Mechanism only seems to click pop just at the last moment the key is Withdrawn , if you notice once the key is Inserted
you have to slightly push the key in to turn I would do this Process I good few times as for the wire you need to look at rave and work out what is going on maybe datatek can work that one out?
Have you remove steering cover plastic there might be a lube also activate steering lock a few times hope this helps

Welding the flexi section shouldn't distort the flange, and there will still be enough movement in flexi section after weld.
There are some second hand ones on fleabay from around £60-£80. Just had a check.

I was piling around mainly at the bottom of the barrel (pun not intended).
Now you mention it when the key is out I can see down the barrel. Usually it closes up when key is out...
I will have a pike around the top of the barrel...
I am going over to Emmotts for a manifold in morning-they are only 1hr away so I wouldn't mind seeing the great LR graveyard!

You can't just detach a wire, it needs to know when the key is in and when it is out. You could fit an external switch I suppose. Easier to just fix the problem.

When I had key in lock syndrome, the little shutter at the top was sticking open. Not sure why this would affect it but when I freed it off the problem went away and has not returned. Probably just coincidence

Thats right. Unless the little shutter closes, it thinks key is still in. Sorted mine with graphite, but have noticed when its very cold it does happen more often. Needs a wiggle with key tip and it pops shut.

Defently I experimented with the key in various Positions even right on its tip open door key in messages at the moment the tip/ entry of the barrel clicks back message goes I can only assume it is on a micro switch

Got a manifold from Emmotts-horrible noise on starting/cold now sorted.
Key Problem - no amount of cleaning or poking around would cure it. Removed panels and binnacle with intention of removing barrel. There is some sort of induction loop at top of key barrel. Don't understand how it works... It has separate wires to those at bottom of barrel. They go into a small plug/socket. Unplugged this and the "Ignition key in" message went, best of all the remote locking now works and no irritating beeping when I open a door!
Put it back together leaving the induction loop disconnected and so far no adverse effects. I just have to remember to remove my key when I leave car as there is now no reminder, false or otherwise...
