Hi. I am getting a lot of trouble with turning my key in my ignition. I want to take the cylinder out to inspect/clean. Could anyone describe in detail/post a picture of where the hole is for the release detent for the cylinder, thanks.

They are not meant to be disassembled put some dry lock lube in it and see if it improves any.

The pins are probably worn in the barrel, it may need replacing, or it could be the key blade is a bit worn as has happened on my daily driver, a new blade sorted it. I will not post on a public forum how to get the barrel out but if you PM me with an email address I will send you details.

Try clearing it out with electrical contact cleaner and blow it out with air (bike pump will do). Then as Wammers says squirt from graphite powder lock lube. 3 cans off Amazon are cheap as chips.

Without going into too much detail in a public place... You need to have the key in the ignition AND turned to position 2 (disconnect the ignition switch wires first so it doesn't power up the vehicle!) before you can put the pin in to release the cylinder.

But as the others have said - you can usually get away with cleaning them with a cleaner that doesn't leave a residue (otherwise you just end up making the problem worse) and then graphite powder as lube.

The key blades also wear, one of mine has recently stopped working, the spare key works fine.

Both keys have the same problem unfortunately.
It is starting and driving though, hard to get the time to everything, clutch slave is leaking, coolant system is leaking, front driveshaft is in the boot, handbrake is disconnected, the list could go on

Sounds like it's next trip should be to a scrap yard.
