Series 2/3 109 station wagon, kitted out for some old school overlanding. I think they look cool, I've always like series landys. A veh of this kind would be a true utilitarian workhorse.
I must admit most of my childhood was spent in series 2's and 3's...they were the workhorse of every other estate I knew of...wasn't 'til the early 90's that some started using Hi-Lux's...I do think the days of LR being this country's workhorse are over now...everyone seems to use Toyota's, Nissan's or Izuzu's now...

Most of the farmers around me (Herefordshire) seem to use the small suzuki jimny type things. I can see why, they're sort of like disposable 4x4s.
When I hop over the border, and especially around Brecon, you see alot more defenders with ifor williams tops, and collies in the back.
There is definitely a charm about a series land rover, and they're only going to appreciate in value.

Yes there is indeed...I'm just trying to upload an old picture of the one I spent more of my childhood in than any other but can't seem to get it to work...it was a real beauty and a real workhorse...probably never had a day off in it's life!

It would have to be a RRC 4.2 LSE..
Nice car but I do remember many times up on the grouse moors when RR's were bogged down in peat up to their windows but the LR's just drove on by...they were just too heavy for some off road situations...I've heard it said that the Hi-Lux's and Nissans are the same but I've no experience of them myself...

It has to be the greatest vehicle ever built...if you had any other car which was noisy, smelly, smoky, and not that comfortable you'd be driven insane...but when it's a Land Rover it just takes you somewhere else entirely and provokes the biggest smiles
:rolly:I was in a series 3 hardtop once on a steep hill road, full of grouse beaters...it tipped over on it's side, we all got out, tipped it upright again and carried on...only the underkeeper who'd had his arm out of the passenger window had a slight injury...

I was in my girlfriends car the other day driving out of the garden centre car park and we went passed a series 2 or 3 parked right at the end of the car park on it's own. I made her slow down as we went passed it so I could survey it's beauty. I do it all the time, she just thinks I'm crazy.
It had a different shade of green for the wing, doors, and tub, which I think is fantastic. I can't think of a single other vehicle that could pull that off.
They are the image of rural Britain. I've had two series 3's (Both 88s, one cream station wagon, one bronze green hardtop). I had, had the disco for about 8 months and found it to be the most boring car I've ever owned. I bought the 88, at such a great price, but it was a bit of a nail on the outside. I had it for a week or so, and then bottled it, and sold it to John Brown landrovers at about £100 profit, who in turn sold it a week later, for about 2 grand more. I went back to the disco, but got the urge again, and got myself another series 3, this time a bit smarter. I drove in it for about a fortnight to see if it was any good for me. It was to be used as my daily drive, and was a pain to park, especially having no back windows. It was VERY noisy, VERY slow, and VERY bumpy. I made some doorcards for it, sold it on, again at a small profit, and went back to the disco.
Even now, every week, I search for bargain 109 SW on ebay, out of curiosity and jealousy.

Never owned a series LR ReadySalted but grew up spending half my time in them and did all my learning to drive on them and tractors...but then I had to start school and that spoiled things...
I didn't find the Disco boring though, at least not my 200 and 300tdi's...I liked the fact they were still very much LR's and I could throw them around off-road, but I could drive 600 miles in comfort too...and then there was the comfort the ex and I could enjoy parked up in some Forestry Commission road far away from Joe Public...now that wouldn't have been so comfortable in a series LR
