I ordered a Delphi lift pump recently to replace the cheap Britpart one I had and they were identical, right down to tiny flaws in the casting, the only difference was a delphi sticker.

This gasket couldn't be anymore different to the original though, basically Rimmers took a Pratpart gasket and put a different part number on it then charged 4 times the cost for it.

Doesn't surprise me with them, I don't use them anymore

Apparently Elring are the OEM for this part, thats what everyone else is listing, that one they sent me is not an Elring gasket.

Does not surprise me, at Billing show the other year, a guy broke down on the way, got towed in, spent the weekend working on it,did not question the lift pump as it was a brand new Delphi unit. Eventually he got a 2nd hand no brand one from the fleamarket and hey presto drove home a happy bunny.

Cheers

Funny, that part is out of stock now. Maybe someone did a switch with the last box on the shelf, says it wont be back in stock until November 18th.

I know, strange that, did they think I wouldn't notice the difference? If they had of said I could have sourced it elsewhere. I will get a decent one from our suppliers at work tomorrow. What kind of dildo fits a £2 head gasket anyway?

Might as well cut one out of a cornflakes box :)

Yes, you should avoid, put it this way, manufacturing costs, logistics costs, retailer profit, final sale price £2, how can that be anything but a poor quality product? And a head gasket? The potential damage that can do if it fails.

As a LR noob I'm getting the distinct impression I should avoid Britpart for spares on the P38?

They have a few nicknames none of them very flattering, some of their stuff is okayish for the money.
The problem is all the big names (paddocks/craddock/allmakes/bearmach) peddle the same crap under different makes/names yet they are the same part.

If the part is important/safety related put the letter G after the britpart number and it will be decent gear.

Owning a r/r you ill learn this yourself pretty quickly.
If the part is cheap ie gaskets buy more than you need as you will need them again some time in the future!

Nig would

At least some of Allmakes and Bearmachs stuff is OK, but I always order their PR2 or G version or whatever good brand there is , such as wabco or Delphi. Well you got the idea.
Rimmers used to be very good but about 6 years back they started selling Brickpart on a large scale. It was very disappointing.
A good source is Evolution, if you are after gearbox, axle or diff parts. They actually make most of the things and I have seen it @ the factory

I bought this,

OEM head gasket,

They sent me one of these, without the britpart packaging,

https://www.island-4x4.co.uk/head-gasket-22525-diesel-britpart-err3618-p-75.html

The genuine one looks like this,

Am I missing something? Do Britpart manufacture a plastic clip for Land Rover and there for can call them selves OEM? Is that how this works?

Why do they think I would be happy to fit a £2 head gasket?
Turn it over, does it say Rice Krispies or Cornflakes?

For engine parts I generally use Turner Engineering. They sell the parts they fit themselves, anything I have bought has been top quality..

Turners are good for bits pistons and the like. I ended up getting an Elring gasket from Off Road Rovers here in Suffolk, Didn't have it in stock but it was with them the next day, can't fault service like that. If I get a chance I will properly compare both gaskets and report back.
