I still have the same issue with my car and after loads of research trying to work out which part of my system is faulty, I've finally found a specialist who stated I have an ibus issue. He says its quite rare and he doesn't know a fix.

Does anyone know what I could check? I am completely unfamiliar with system despite 30 mins of reading which went far above my head.

This has been showing on my head unit and I get no sound at all thru the speakers (radio/cd/tape/tv) except sat nav instructions and my phone via a parrot aftermarket bluetooth kit. I've even purchased an auxilary cable to fit a digital tv system but even with this I get no sound for some reason.

Sadly its not the Bm54. The specialist who advised me its an ibus issue specialises in repairing bm54 units, dsp's and head units and stated that he couldn't help at all as it was none of those units. :/

The following might solve the display problem. If you go back to the main menu screen and go into the SET menu there is an "Audio + OBC" setting on one of the two pages. Set this to "off" and the screen should go back to the radio menu when you select it. As to the sound issue, it's probably the BM54 as mentioned. Lots of info on the net about the pre-amp fsilibg and losing sound.

But if you still get Sat Nav guidance sounds then the I Bus is fine surely..??

Looking at the schematic, the Sat Nav talks to the BM54 through the I bus, it also comms with the Display module both hardwired and I bus...

Hmmmm, there is a company in West Byfleet who specialises in the BM54 and the Bimmer Nav systems....give them a look up and ask....unless this is the company you have already tried

I've tried the audio+obc setting just now and no luck still I'm afraid. It just removes the bottom half of the screen to blank but the radio options still remain blank too.

Strangely the only option that seems to have any effect is if I try to tune the analogue tv. Then when going back to the radio function, the screen displays radio station and frequency etc as it should but still no sound or any buttons working. Goes back to blank when I turn the ignition off and on again.

Saint, the company I tried was carphonics in enfield. Do you have a contact for the company you are aware of please? I'm not too sure how the whole system works as I lack the expertice to be honest but I'm very grateful for any suggestions.

Turning off the OBC+Audio removes the OBC stuff from the screen so that bit is working correctly. I have a similar issue as I can't get radio stations on the display and no sound from this or tape and CD. All the indications are a BM54 problem which I am looking at.

Thanks for the tip Saint, but after dealing with these guys for the last couple of days they were really bad. They wanted silly money to even look at any of the system (more than it would be to buy new parts) and despite me saying I thought it was an ibus fault, wanted to try and get me to pay for other services even though they were unlikely to be at fault.

Wouldn't recommend them if anyone with the same fault is reading this.

Open to any other recommendations though as I'm sure others have managed to fix this problem.

Sorry to hear that.... Never used them but I pass their place regularly as only a few miles up the road!!

Thanks for the warning!

I have managed to solve my issue. I now have sound on everything. I was advised to disconnect everything from the system in the wheel arch, leave it for a couple of hours and then plug it back in one unit at a time starting with the TV tuner as that drives the screen when the satnav is disconnected. Apparently if one of the many units are faulty it can create problems with everything. I found that one of the telephone units was causing my loss of audio. No idea why but I can replicate the fault by plugging it back in. I also managed to reload the satnav firmware from a source on the web so now my satnav works. This may help with your issue.
