3 threads now, its getting messy. Discos rust badly, flop and wallow on road and are not as good as a defender off road.

Rust badly? I've seen many cars in worse rust states than the disco we just picked up and I mean far newer cars!

As for wallowing on the road, not seen or felt any of that either.

mine doesn't roll never got it stuck! followed a 90 everywhere and it didn't struggle to keep less the times my lack of skill caused issues!

Look what howardo's found. Anyone on ere going to admit to owning this?

Discovery poor mans Defender or thinking mans Range Rover :p

Noo I wanted a land rover and for my budget I could of got. A defender (too uncomfortable for a 2yo) a p38 and keep my bmw or a discovery s andnd keep my bmw. Chose the discovery after joining here. Split up with ex and ended up having to sell bmw anyway :-( should have a 110 but I love my disco. And using the RRC chassis means that as standard its a damn fine offroader and once modified you can close that gap on defenders just discos dont suit the militant look anywhere near as much.

I'm confused I thought discovery's and defender's have the same running gear chassis's etc?

I find Discovery's more comfy to drive but do rust which is the benefit of the defender's alloy body work plus it makes them lighter than the Discovery's other than that I thought there pretty much the same thing?

discos are 100". defenders are 90 or 110".
discos have ally/steel bodies, as do defenders. they all rust - just differently.

discos are way surpassed by almost any similar japanese 4x4 SUV of a similar age and size on road, off road pretty much any japanese SUV 4x4 of similar age ans size will have more comfort and more toys as standard, such as altimeters, rdl, tiltmeters, uppydowny susension electric this, electric that, possibly more powerful enjuns etc.

performance wise, they're just as good as defenders, way better than gaylanders, but sadly lacking in difflocks where it matters.

discos do however take the crown for being the simplest and cheapest to repair.

One way in which Discoverys are much better than the Japs is the ability to last, and the price of spare parts. I see lots of old Discoverys, but few similar age Jap versions.
