Does sound as if they've thrown it through an mot & done the sales place a favour, sometimes the tester will pass it then lets say the lights are on like yours, they would take it back to the sales garage & sort out the issues before it goes out the door.
Does sound like the tester will be the fall guy for this. Im keen to find out what vosa says when they inspect it.

Technically NOT a triangle as it has a curved side and a triangle has 3 straight sides. So I shall pass.
