I once boobed with a car boot. Had a new Chevette (yea it was a long time ago) and I went for an afternoon wind surf in November. I clipped my key to the zip on my wet suit so I could get back in the car when I came out of the water. Wet and freezy cold I took the wet suit top off and chucked it in the boot. And promptly closed the boot lid - key still on the wet suit. Luckily there were other people about and I managed to borrow a screw driver, got back in the boot the bad lads way...that I have been awarded "Hero Status" because the wife's car boot was locked and could not be opened.
Mini Clubman All-4 no key, just a push bezel. You could hear a click, but no unlock.
I pulled the rear seats fwd and gave the door post/bar that closes the lock a sharp tap with a very long screwdriver.
Bingo! Can't get it to fail now. But...of course it will fail and at the most awkward of occasions possible you can be sure.
