Nice. Yup the engine came from bmw as they owned rover and land rover from 1994 onwards so they had access to their engines later on. But didn't put it in until the 2001 upgrade (started late 2000). Of the engines available in the FL1, the diesels are the most reliable. They can fail but not as often as the petrol's. The auto combination makes it a good buy as the auto helps oft road as yer dun't need ter slip the clutch when pulling away or trying ter drive slowly over an obstacle. Eye is really pleased for yer.
Don't be cos I won't be keeping it. The seller is coming up with excuses as to why the don't want to complete the deal now:rolleyes: It's not my fault nobody else bid on it

Not a chance, it'll be going straight back on Ebay after a valet
You should drive it for a bit. Its never going to be the sort of tow wagon you need, I'm sure you'll really come out of the closet and like the vehicle.

Before you put it back on eBay, you should look to see about getting some roof rails. 3 doors without them look gay which is probably why you for it for the price of a Mars bar. If you can pick up a set (with all the bolts) cheap, you'll make a lot more moolar.

What's the shipping cost to NZ? :D

Not wishing to educate the rabble to much, but the Rover L Series diesel is by far the most reliable engine in Freelander. I'd then say followed by the Rover K Series petrol (so long as you consider the HG a serviceable part). The Kraut block comes in turd and the KV6 is a bit of a joke unless you're a purist.

Both diesels are about the same. Yer can't consider the petrol 1.8 betterer than a diesel. The head gasket issue is not a service item. Consider and compare other cars like a ford focus with 1.8 petrol. They dun't require the same gasket replacement our k series has and certainly dun't think of it as a service item. They dun't have anywhere near the failures of head gaskets the k series has. They have been around a bit longer than the freelander 1 and dun't have the same go anywhere oft road reputation, and hgf failing reputation anorl.

He'll be gutted enough to be selling his beloved Freelander. Eye think yer being mean to him. Offer him £20. He'll also be miffed at giving such a good vehicle away at such a low price. The 4 wheels/tires will sell for over £100 to start with.
