Well the plumberer has been.
I talked him through the whole saga and at the end of it he said "Well I would have done the same as you and in the same order."
So I was quite chuffed.
Mind he wouldn't have got watter running out of pipes in an airing cupboard. 🤣 🤣 🤣
We agreed that the steps taken indicate the need for a new pump and a new motorised valve as the old ones are dodgy and noisy. and they don't owe us anything.
He also recommended a UPS Grundfos pump as I think has been recommended on here, without looking upthread.
I asked how much the parts would be and he gave me some figures. I then asked when he could do it. He looked quite surprised as he thought I would be doing it! So he'll be doing it in the next few days.
Don't begrudge the money, the system is so good it has cost us nearly nowt over the years in repairs and parts.
I asked him if he wanted to see the antique boiler, so he had a look and we chatted about it, the thermocouples and pump overrun stat.
Good chat. Decent bloke.
He also said, "Don't get rid of it"!!!

Hopefully this is the beginning of the end. :):):)
And from now on I will regard gate valves as useful only as fishing weights ...

... and I don't go fishing!!!
;)
Have a nice evening all. :):):):)
Did he say if he would have hit it wiv a hammer?

There's no standard process over her also, every thing changes every time you go depending on the person dealing with it do you not have a card for your health cover ? We also have a tax OIB number so thay just log on and get all your details not Keen on that but it was needed every thing has become more difficult since B----t now the blue passport is a joke in the EU 😕😕😕

My residence card number can double check my health care payments, it’s seems that the departments don’t quite talk to each other, which means I have to do it.
B has certainly throw a lot of things in the mix, but hey ho.

So it is a bit unbelievable that you have to do all this just to renew them.
We also have heard of people being told to bring certain documents to a meeting only to be told they didn't need so and so but they did need so-and-so. So really do sympathise. Patience and a good temper really is at a premium. Best of luck with it all.;);):):)

Would it be any easier if you spoke fluent BG?

I thought a renewal would be easy too.
I had a friend (Bulgarian) help with the forms, he didn’t understand them either, also the notary didn’t. So no I am not sure just speaking would help, it’s the system that is so dependent on the person behind the counter to give out info. If you ask the right questions.
It has been different requirements each time.

But as you say Patience is the key.

If there's "black stuff" it could well be a clogged impellor. I did ask about the last time inhibitor was put it but cant remember the answer as to how old it is.

You could just drain the system down a bit enable you to have another look. Shut the supply at your heating header tank in the loft you would probably only drain a bucketful at the boiler to empty enough.
Some gate valves respond to being open/closed a few times just at the last bit of closure, also "jamming them shut sometimes doesn't help. I just had a look on screwfix and see they do the pump valves as ball valves now, Gonna have some of them next time I visit the UK 👍.
We have 3 pumps in our system, it works for us they don't all run at once, only the underfloor heating which pretty much runs continuously even in the summer.

Our impellor was clogged and it just wasn't doing as well as it should. so it may not be fine to rubbish in a day its a gradual process till the pump just cant do it anymore that's when you notice, and as yours is not used for long periods the rubbish settles.

What speed is your pump set on? try turning it to 3 see how it goes, maybe it will clear some crud.

The leaver type are ok but do not even think about the ones with a ball and screwdriver slot they are 99.9% guaranteed to leak if you turn them after a few years, i wont even try just drain down and replace :(

Where's Rod Hull when you need him. 🤣 🤣
