What the heck is copal lacquer? (Used to make a gold lacquer for tinplate that will not crack when the tinplate is bent.) Use 2/3 to 1/3 with linseed oil. Venice turpentine, Sandarac and other stuff goes together to make an ink you use to write on glass.
Health and safety not being so prevalent then some of the ingredients were well dodgy.
