You get a fallout on the roof in the Leeward of the prevailing wind depending on your deg of pitch this can cause a delamiation of roof tiles as most are now only surface dressed I prevent this by spraying every 4yrs with a sealer the fallout is very acidic
This is interesting, the log burner is one of those fiercely efficient ones you have to buy to get a grant from the Frog state, not that we did, cos they only pay the sub by reducing your income tax! Which of course we don't pay, nevertheless it makes it much more economical.
Therefore there is very little smoke as we burn dry hardwood all the time.
The chimney is very low and has a flat top, the pitch is about 30 degrees and I'll put pics up so you can see the type of damage and it's situation in relation to the chimbley. I'll also have a look to see what it is like on the south side. The tiles are the typical, provencal-type, wavy, earthenware numbers.
And yes the prevailing wind comes from the west so blows across from the chimney which is right on the westward end.

Pics to follow.
Ta mate. :):):)

Suns' out-ish.
I went to bed last night with a bit of irritation just above my left hip. Thought it was simply my jeans being too tight. Got em off and no it was a flipping tick that had been irritating me. Pulled it off before I even saw what it was, silly me. Whacked some antibiotic gel on, fast. What a pain.
Now I suppose I will just have to keep on watching out for Lyme's disease.:rolleyes:
Today we will be going, with our new neighbour/horse owner bloke, to his house, as we don't know exactly where it is, for 14h30? For what? Early afternoon tea? A look around? "Meet the wife"? Very intriguing!
So we are putting off the roast chicken until this evening! At least with the French, who faint if their dins isn't in front of them at 12h00, you know it won't be for a late BBQ!

Have a good day folks!:):):)

Eye watched a few telly programs about her doing up that house. It was left empty ferra while. When she moved back in peeps had vandelised it. Complete mess. She employed a builderer to work full time with her as it was cheaper than him charging job rates. Fink a few had tried to do her over on price.

Yer I watched a few of them programs shame the dirty wee scrotes wrecked it. The builder dude was a nice chap iirc.

Spottid me squirrels this morning. Big one getting nuts. Then later on the smaller one following the big one. Big one knows where to search which is how eye first recognise em. Trying to feed the little one by putting a row of nuts across me slabs so he dun't miss em when he wonders frew. Big one knows eye normally put em by me patio door. Little one dun't.

Found some old tins of spray paint so.............. 🤣🤣🤣

As you can see there is a definite pattern to the delamination, to the bottom edge of the tile and to the eastern side. The chimney and the prevailing wind (coming) from the west.

However the south side.....

1716112313122.png

Shows much, much less damage.
Also less moss. Though I cannot be sure the moss is causing the problem, or contributing to it.

Would you mind telling me what sort of sealant stuff to get?

And yes I did notice yet another broken tile on the North side. ;)

This is all very sudden, I check every year and it has never been like this before. I am wondering if it has happened this April as it rained tons and we lit a fire many evenings.

Very grateful for you advice.

Propper roof tiles last about 70 years so there must be somefink wrong with them. When you lift a tile can you see them looking clean and origional where they flap under the tile above?

Your Dixon-Bate seems very, .... long???
I do appreciate you can't mount it any higher.
Does the other bit have two bolts or one bolt? :stars:

Its only loosely fitted, I came home a few months ago & someone had left that plus the slider & nato hitch at the
back of the landy ??? I just put to bolts in it as it was lying in the back of the landy. Think its got a 5 inch lift so
if I need to tow somit I need the longer Dixon-Bate. Yer I think it looks stupid, But towing a trailer with its
ass like a dog with an itchy bum is not a good look. 🤣🤣🤣

Fink so. They ain't too expensive thanks be to "whomever". Loads of peeps round ere ave em.
We have ginormouse hailstones here on a regular basis, I'm talking golfball to tennis ball size, you should see the queues outside the glass and tile places after one of them storms! If it is big enough the mayor or "prefet" declares aregional emergency, otherwise the insurance companies don't payout! Peeps cars all dinted in and stuff.

When I was still in the UK and W was over here there was a storm like that. She had a lickle vauxhall and one bounced off the driver's window into the door mirror and smashed it. So I had to bring a new un out from home!

So we all have spares for when it happens. As they are mostly just interlocking they only take minutes to change. I have 4 spares in the shed at the mo. I'll have to have a count up and see how many I need. :(:(

I've got a bruck one in the hall I'll go have a gander.....
The bit that goes under the above tile looks the same. They are designed to look weathered, their trade name is the equivalent of "vintage". "Median Tradition"

So you can see they are designed to look "variegated"
Brand new bright modern ones look God-awful,

Some people have them but they only improve with a lot of aging.
As I think I said upthread, blokey with a similar house reckons we might have got stuck with"seconds" although on the other 7 sections of roof they are OK. Also his log burner is very little used and the chimney is central and a lot higher.
So yes, you'd think that, apart from breakage, they ought to last longer but then @Stone56 seems to have to protect his too. Just have to wait and see his situation.
I'll replace the ones that are worst then protect the rest with summat. :(
