Some people doing solar on a budget are using fork lift batteries rather than ones made for the task at hand. I suppose you could do something similar with milk floats but I think fork lift trucks have the sense of machismo and adventure that appeals to people going it alone. Maybe soon we'll see dilapidated Teslas recruited to the task as well.

I've got a solar power system because my property in Wales is sufficiently far from any wires to make it economically attractive, so I don't have to put the generator on every time I want a cup of coffee or to use the computer.
 
Have yer gorra rough location. Would be interesting to look them up to see whats going on. Might be battery backup containers.

They weren't there a year ago, and they remind me of self contained generator sets.
