I've been smelling smells as I drive around. Smells that smell a bit like warm coolant drying out. I keep looking in the engine bay but can't see any leaks and the level doesn't seem to be going down. I even pulled over on my way back from Wales this evening and had a look under the bonnet part way through the journey but couldn't see anything amiss. I had a leak a few weeks ago where a metal pipe that goes from the front of the engine towards the heater box got a hole in, right on the smart motorway section of the M6. I have a fear of breaking down on smart motorways, so I'm very sensitive about it now. I then realised that my 5 litre container of coolant in the back was lying on its side and leaking. The rear floor of the Land Rover gets warm because of all the hot air blowing back from the engine down the transmission tunnel and, as it's a TD5, the fuel tank heats up too on long journeys because the fuel goes round and round through the cylinder head. That, I think, was enough to dry it out and make it smell.

I feel for you.
The wife's Pluriel does exactly this. Smell of coolant which fortunately seems to fade away once the engine is hot.
Like you, the level doesn't go down much at all over a period of time.
I think it is a leaky seal on the joint with the matrix.
When we bought it it had it and others we looked at also had it!
Also share your fear of breaking down on a "smart" motorway as we have to use one every time we drive to Southampton/Portsmouth/points east.
Guess all you can do at the moment is check before you leave on a trip, carry coolant and then in the fullness of time check on the matrix and connections.

W and I are busy facing up to the fact we both have slightly high blood pressure.
This started cos her noo doc told her she needed to test and record 4 times a day for a week.
I dug the machine out and tested myself too, more than a few times.
Of course she is 76 and I am 68 so you'd expect it to be a bit high, we both drink too much and do little exercise, particularly in the UK. and at least I am overweight.
On doing research it appears taking Naproxen (her) and having sleep apnea (me) don't help.
142/83 @ 71 heartrate at the mo. Bizarrely my machine doesn't say I have arrythmia, which it always used to.

Just read a very detailed article on the correct procedure to use when doing a BP test.
Having adhered to it just now, got 138/82 @ 71
simply by not just rolling my (short) sleeve up, above the cuff. And I have drunk instant coffee in the past 1/2 hour which I should not have done!
Neither of us should talk during the tests either.
I'm goint to have to bookmark the website article in question and show it to W as she hasn't been testing herself quite correctly either. (She having gone to bed). White coat syndrome is so well know that docs are supposed to apply a factor to their readings to account for it. Never knew that!

Just done it three times, all under 120/80 @ in the 60s.
Discovered no doc has ever done it right. And this went for W as well.
