I think this must be it. I have started only covering the top as I have noticed that the permanent ones are made from a wooden frame and a bit of corrugated iron over it. Funny thing is it's been OK for ages. But I do also move logs into the house well before burning them (and under cover outside) to give them still more of a chance to dry out.Just cover the top of the log pile let the air in on the sides the damp cannot get out and comes up from the ground and condensates on the logs greenhouse effect
