Wifey off to her last sewing club/lessons thing, last one before Crispmus.
I think I'll shave off my beard and cut my hair.
Both plumbing supplies places had a good look at both the tap and the fitting/adaptor pipe.
They tried everything they could think of and were forced to give up.
So not 12mm, not any BSP size, so they think it might have come in from abroad.
There is no room for me to drill it out a fraction to take any other fitting as the two holes nearly touch as it is, and the seal relies totally on the O-ring as beyond the female thread there is nothing but empty space where the water flows.
So I'll either have to make something up with what I have, or find the unfindable equivalent 14mm fitting with a seal on it, or buy a new tap. Which wouldn't be the end of the world.
I might have a look on French plumberist sites as then I could get my stepson to send me summat, but that would be overkill I think. Funnily we took a lot of taps over to France when doing all the installations, they all came with these sorts of adaptors but I found I could buy flexies that screwed straight in over there. :rolleyes:

I think that the female threaded part of the fitting is as you say, and will have a short spigot inside to accomodate a washer - rubber or fibre - and screws up to the male end of a tap. The tap male end has a wider flat on the end to utilise the sealing washer. The female end of a compression fitting has almost no flat end, as the bore is tapered out to take a compression olive which gets compressed when the back-nut is tightened. Is the entry into the threaded parts of your tap tapered, if so a change to readily available tails might fit? I will be going into my loft tomorrow and will have a look in my plumbering spares box, I have a good selection of the various parts in common use. And might take a few photos to illustrate wot I am talking about.

Firstly thanks for all you input, much appreciated.
When I worked for KS Pipeline supplies, I was in constant contact with fittings of all sorts. The main warehouse worked with pipes, valves and fittings for water, steam and gas. They also had a small range of hydraulic hoses.
The smaller depot I worked out of, as a pneumatic controls rep, dealt with Enots and Simplifix stuff. So have some idea of how compression and push fit tube fittings work. On Enots stuff the metric fittings were a standard thread but the imperial stuff had Enots own thread, presumably made so that our competitors, which were Martonair and Schrader, didn't have stuff our stuff would connect directly to!!!
All very good fun!!

And no, the tap fitting is not tapered which, if it were, would make it possible, maybe, to engage a 12mm fitting.
This is intriguing me enough now to make me go for a quick look on ManoMano.Fr to see what I can find or search in French on Google.fr
More for fun than anything else.

I had a look in me spares box to see what I've got. Piccy attached, flexi is M10 (used) and copper is M12 - similar but not the same as yours. M10 and M12 are readily available but not much use to you. I would be putting new o-rings on the pipes you have, fit them back in the tap, and connect to the feed pipe with 15mm compression fittings.

Afternoon folks:).

So have managed to get the scaffold up in the east wing bathroom to be:) (sorry called it the west wing earlier). It is started to show us its winter, need to dig out me wolly hat the ears are getting cold:). But the fire is on and so we are warm inside:)
Have done something in me forearm and its giving me some jip at the moment, so its good it getting a day off tomorrow:D. It will be fine on turdsdays.

Going into "big boy" town to see our new solicitor (old 1 died dont know why and she was young too, shame she was good), got to sort out our BG wills. If you thought it was difficult for the UK;). Try this. As we are not married and the property is in a business name, when the first of us dies the share goes to next of kin regardless, the surviving partner has no obligation to inform and can refuse they have their share:eek: But has to pay the value? but only if they know the rules and make the claim:p:D.
Guess what:rolleyes:. Good job we all get on:) (ATM). Its all about protecting the survivor right now, they can argue about it after simple:D Oh and pay the tax:p.

I have just spent about 1 1/2 hours searching the web in French and no can't find anything suitable over there either.

So they must be a real one off, or in this case 2 off.:rolleyes:
So I'm gonna put it on the back burner for the mo, get the unit and sink all lined up then give it another dose of thinking about. ;)

This is precisely why we bought our place "en tontine". Obvs different country different rules, but it meant less taxes and Wifey could leave her share to me, if she went first. vice versa obvs.
If this hadn't been done, Wifey's kids could technically have chucked me out with only a small share. (See "en division".)
Since then the law changed so that there is no tax payable between spouses on the first one's death. So I'd get to keep the house no matter what.
But after that it would go to her kids, no matter what. Napoleonic law of inheritance oblige.
The feckin law is a complete pile of sh!t isn't it? no matter what country you are in.
