Mate of mine paid quite a lot to have more or less his whole surname as a plate.
The plods stopped him and told him they were going to do him three times, as he was towing a trailer. Cos the letters were too close together. Matey pointed out that he had had no warnings which he should have had according to the local situation. They tried to say he'd been warned before but then discovered they couldn't prove it. (They hadn't at all.) So he didn't get done, but had to get the letters properly spaced.:(:(:(
Never understood why the spacing of the numbers and letters is so important, as long as the letters are the right size.
I am sure someone will come on here and tell me why.

Took a look inside me sick angle grinder this morning. A single ball bearing rattled out of it, don't know where the rest of them have escaped to. Looks like its days are over, well it lasted 15 years so not bad for a power tool. New one ordered :), same type but obviously updated model.
Fair enough.
But the bearings are cheap as chips even though you can get all different qualities. Grinders do get all sorts of cr@p in them and what killed my big one was cutting concrete slabs. The number of the bearing was stamped into it, for less than a £10 it was back running like new.
Just saying!
(I'm a tight barsteward);););)

The ANPR cams pick up the plates with correct spacing, so they can be tricked by messing
about with the spacing. I got pulled last year for it.

"only vehicles built before 1 st January 1980 will be eligible to display the black and silver number plates (silver, white or grey characters on a blackplate). These traditional plates add a touch of class to classic cars, especially when you have a private or non-date specific registration number."

Ahhh but would your 72/73 actully break any speed limits:D:D
