With the R380, disco, the Lo-hi lever is the engine side of the gear lever, if i am right, the L77 has it nearer the cubby box/middle seat.R380 then

My mate's TD5 90 had the box with the hi-lo at the rear.
Can't remember where reverse was as I never drove it!
putting v8s in defenders was quite a large part of my work at one time, then everyone moved as fashion moved on

if i had a std 200tdi defender id fit v8 as it was fitted by factory and fit the long v8 bell housing 77 or r380,floor plates tunnel etcSo this is a rave from the grave then!?
The $64k question is, can he easily join hisLT77 box to the back of a V8 and would that be a good idea, especially with those Tonka toy wheels and tyres?

yes prior to the 300 the engine and short box sat a couple of inches further back ,v8 was pushed forward this enabled the longer box and meant it still sat further forward ,you need to swap more parts but they are all std lr parts (even quite a few disco parts)not cut and shut etc to fit an engine were it wasntSo the answer is "yes, but well, sort of, you'll need a few more bits!"
