Well was going Kayaking this morning but Defender would not go.
Operated the fob as usual drivers door did not full open, seemed to stop as if solenoid did not fully operate.
So pushed it fully closed, same again. Passenger side opened ok
Key in ignition all ok it tried to start and then nothing.
Fob does not work, tried my spare same not recognised by vehicle it seems.
Dash lights come on but when I turn the key nothing. Checked battery, fully charged, went thro fuses all good.
With At Home cover called RAC, they were there within 20 minutes.
Cut a long story short he could not find the issue, went through check of fuses relays etc.
I got my local garage on the phone and the RAC guys explained what he went through and what he thought was the potential issue
To late to arrange Recovery so will call them out on Tuesday morning to take it to my local garage (not Land Rover) when it opens after New Year.

So as opposed to a nice gentle paddle down the Clyde I stripped the air box and carburetors off my Yamaha XS1100 as it had been running rich
Checked float heights all good, reassembled into bike. Fuel tank had some surface rust underneath so prepped that and will spray it tomorrow.

Still it kept me busy

Yup, been there and done that for all the "common problems" with these styles of lathes.
Sadly, my problem isn't up there except for one poor sausage whose MX 8 x 14 is in a far worse state than mine :(
I can probably fix it, but I shouldn't have to. It has run for <2-hours and it is stripping the belt of teeth and just isn't "right".
I am in touch with the supplier and we are "doing the dance" where he pretends he is trying to help me and I pretend I believe him.
These are essentially simple machines but the way they have organised the main drive on this one is pretty awful. :(
I have asked them to provide a new drive belt (for a start) and they have suggested I alter the motor's position to lessen the strain on the belt.
Trouble is, the motor pulley has been hammered onto the motor-spindle and is immovable along the shaft and the motor mount points are bolt holes and not "slots" so the degree of movement is extremely limited.
I will get there and I will fix it. It is just ruddy annoying.
Film the problem and put it ont youtube. Then send the link to the supplier so they can see the fault. They dun't like bad advertising. Eggspecially when their and the product name is int title and search words. ;)

Another late rising here :(
This has to stop, just because I am now an official pensioner is no real excuse for tardiness.
No snow here.
My new lathe is kaputski and in pieces on the work bench. The drive system is in need of some re-design as it chews belts and spits them out again. The toothed pulleys aren't properly aligned, the belt just destroys itself trying to break free and climb the side wall of the drive pulley and they have made it so tight that it strips the teeth away and puts undue stress on the main spindle bearings. Not good at all in this respect.
I will see what I can do to resolve it with some proper alignment, a new (longer) belt and some form of tensioner.

I am not sure how many 140 year olds are operating lathes?
Do you have any imperical date to support your hypothesis?
I have a Taiwanese mill that was built in 1996 that is now in fairly poor condition (it has been in my possession since new) I don't expect it to last another 25 years!
I also don't expect to last another 25 years but my legacy of tools hopefully will :)

Check the connections at the leccy end of the ignition, sometimes they want to go for a stroll ....
 
Can't really (maybe this is what they rely on?) the crate is gone, the machine has been "used" for at least an hour.
I am going to "fix" it. or sell it as an anchor to @Turboman maybe.

That's a shame you must be really disappointed. :(
You are entitled to have the company repair or replace the item under the sale of goods act.
They must be given the chance to do this & all correspondence kept as you can get the financial
ombudsman to take over after so long. Dont let they fkrs gt away with it.;)

Twas a POS from the word go apparently? An hours use? Come on!
Stop playing nice, and find a way to ship it back. (A minor task for an elzedder).
Did you pay on a credit card?

Having got over the shock of what you have been telling us.....
If you want to go the Consumer Law route, I've got quite a lot of experience with it.:):):)
The new law is pretty clear, the retailer has one chance to either repair it or replace it, and if it doesn't work after that you are entitled to your money back. As John Lewis found out when our new induction hob didn't work! You don't have to bring any guarantees into play, or deal with the manufacturer or wholesaler. :) PM me if you would like help with this. I hate it when this happens, as you've probably gathered, and i have yet to lose a case, the Small Claims Track is your friend. ;)
