Just before you put the lid on, pour a little white spirit or turps (I assume we are using solvent base paint) into the tin, carefully, allowing enough for about 1mm deep. Move it around wiv a little stick until it covers the top surface, then put the lid on. It stops skinning over and replaces the solvent lost while the tin is open and you are painting.
