Was a nice little village but is now much more of a 'rat-run' from Newbury to Swindon avoiding the M4. A couple of centuries ago it boasted a renowned 'smithy' who made crotal bells used on the working horse harnesses etc. We have one of them which we dug up in our garden in Eastbury, in the valley. We lived in Aldbourne for about 3 months whilst our house purchase went through but we managed to rent the house which was the start of the Christmas choir tour - at 3 am on Christmas day!!Me grandparents retired to that neck of the woods, little village called Aldbourne. Fond memories of visiting them.
The smithy was still working when I was a little Wimblowdriver.A couple of centuries ago it boasted a renowned 'smithy'
Have they still got the picture of the devils leg on the wall in the Blue Boar? it was used in episodes of Dr Who in the sixties or early seventies but can't remember what they called the pub in the programme. The picture was used as the pub sign.
We knew the pub well but as we left the area 20 years ago, I cannot say if it is still there. Certainly THE PUB IS NOT THE SAME OLD PLACE.Have they still got the picture of the devils leg on the wall in the Blue Boar? it was used in episodes of Dr Who in the sixties or early seventies but can't remember what they called the pub in the programme.
