I bought a landy over two years ago a G reg 90 2.5td with 138000 miles on clock, it is the coolest vehicle i have ever owned, to be honest i DIDNT need one and was very hesitent about buying it, i should not have been. I used it every day for over a year to get myself to work 50 mile round trip. The only things i have had to do to it are change the steering box and replace head gasket.
The only drawback i would say is that my landy ate fuel, so much in fact that i have just bought a little 1.4 punto to get me to work, but i will be keeping the landy as there is just something about the aerodynamics and plush interior which i really like. I still use landy most evenings and weekends.

Also by buying a land rover you will be joining the wave club! I dont think ive ever past another 90/defender driver on the road and they have not given me a wave.

Overall buy a landy unless you are very concerned about economy then dont even think about it!
 
At the age of 45, I was approaching the 'green shoe' syndrome time. With the encouragement of my wife, I bought a year-old 110 csw. It has been my pride and joy for 10 years and I learnt so much I now work as a LR mechanic after being retrenched from boring IT work. It has cost very little in spares up to 150k miles, basically a new clutch, A-frame ball joint, new disks etc.

My wife would divorce ME if I sold it.

(ps. She is French :) )

(and my mother-in-law also loved it. She was also French ;) ).
 
we bought a 96, 300Tdi 14 months ago and it has been ideal for transporting the dog, collecting wood and coal, ploughing our field etc and general trips of 50 miles. i am not sure i would like to use it as everyday transport for commuting over 50 miles. i always wanted one and have no regrets at all. my wife was a little apprehensive but she loves driving it, especially down our small country lanes in cornwall- mainly because everone else ( except tractors) get out of the way. there is no doubt it gets "respect". only one very minor problems so far and far more reliable than my nissan 4 x 4 which is on its 3rd turbo ( or4th, can't remember - happens as part of every service so far!).... sorry to mention the nissan to all you die hard defender chaps.
 
Now then I'm hijacking this fred to ask about Jimbobs ploughing attachment for his Landie.
Is it some thing you've knocked up yourself? how does it attach? how does the Landy cope, is it powerful enough, do you have any photographs of it? can you raise it to turn round? I'm very interested in it I fancy adapting one to plough my allotment.

well i was going to go into a huge long reply about getting it from the local cornwall farmers agri, manipulate some photos etc but well.... time is short. it stems back to getting stuck in the field on a wet day with only road tyres whilst trying to pull a one ton bag full of top soil to put on the veggie plot... nearly made it as well up a 1 in 5 gradient. unfortunately the tyres dug in and i got stuck, creating very large ruts --- great fun that it was, the neighbours across the valley in devon got sick of my swearing and i had to detach the bag and pack out the eruts to get free.

so sorry if i got your hopes up, if i do come across any real attachments i will let you know- there are some pretty wierd looking L/Rs around so would not be surprised to find one

Apparently some local character had one years ago on his series but he's long dead.
 
I think I've won. 'er Indoors agrees that it would be good to have a land rover. Unfortunately the finance fairies have decreed that we can't have one until next year, and only limited funds will be available, but hey, we'll get a landy!

The secret to my success was changing the wallpaper on the computers to be pictures of land rovers, talking about land rovers a lot, pointing out what cool cars they are when we saw them on the road.

I think my cunning psychological assault broke her down.

There was a Landy competing in my local ploughing match! It was a series 1 that had been heavily modified and was pulling a (ransomes?) trailed plough. Thank god that it did not beat me!
Trust me, women love landrovers once you get them so your better off not telling her about it untill it arrives!
 
Oh my god a french car, sell that, i have had no end of problems with them and friends with the same, surrender monkeys

Aye, I wuz an ar trarctar! My first ploughing match and I took third prize, well in the novice class anyway! Tractor has been stood in the corner gathering dust since I got my S11a!
Yes, I do have pictures somewhere but I need some instruction to get them on here!????
 
If you're still interested I've got a little LR booklet that lists every attachment that was available for The series II when it came out and list everything from a plough to an aircraft coveyorbelt baggage loader. I'll try and find it this weekend.
