If I were in your shoes I would be want to establish the condition of the engine first, not the ancillaries.

So I would do the following:

1. Remove all belt and other debris

2. Start the engine and let it tick-over for up to 5 mins.

3. If it starts and ticks over there is likely to be nothing major wrong. Yes I know it's not under load, but if it runs then anything else can be fixed as necessary.

4. Assuming your ACE are ok, remove what's left of the pump block the open ends of the pipe, buy an ACE replacement idler and a non-ACE belt.

This is a short-term cheap fix to get you rolling while you decide what to do longer term.

Good luck

Good news - I did as advised above and the engine started first time - no noise, no smoke and no water loss and the oil pressure light went out straight away. I know this does not rule out problems further down the line but it is a good start.

I am going to remove the pump as advised and I will need a new power steering pulley also as this was damaged when the ACE pulley fell off.
I have decide to bite the bullet and replace the ACE with standard anti roll bars.

I think I remember seeing something from Urban Panzer in this regard detailing a stiffer rear anti roll bar as I have air suspension. I will have to look into this but I am feeling relieved that 1) the engine runs and 2) I will have no further problems from the ACE :)

This is an old thread, doubt he will still be around but you never know,

I have just had the same problem. pump shaft cracked out of the housing. fitted another an hey presto 100 miles and the belt is off again. same problem, split housing.
what could be doing this. new ACE pump on its way but reluctant to have it fitted if there is a promlem elsewhere??
