The beast is back! Hooray! Picked her up yesterday from Solihull- really nice chap- Ken from Transmission Technology. All in £1300.00 (inc. VAT.)! We discussed the need for a new oil cooler and pipes to which he said it would not be necessary- a proper flush would remove any debris. I have taken his word on that- as he has been refurbishing auto's for 30 years and had done countless td6's. Drove back great, noticeably smoother and the change points seem just right. Unexpected bonus- got average 32.8 mpg on the trip home with cruise on at 70mph. Bargain!

Great news....

I would have changed the cooler for peace of mind, but keep an eye on the GB temps, and maybe budget for one when you next change the fluid!

Do you know what work they did?

I didn't discuss the finer details with him as I was pushed for time. But that included removal of gearbox, reconditioning of the box and torque converter new oil, flushing of ancillary parts and refitting. I think that is a very good price. Hows your gearbox saint? Behaving itself post fluid change?

+1 1000% no way would i keep the old cooler under any circumstances:confused::confused::confused:

He said it would be a waste of money as he can do a high pressure flush through the oil cooler to remove any possible swarf. He has supported this with a warranty so he must be confident. 30 years in the game must count towards something!

The most noticable judder at 25-30 has gone (Fingers Crossed) but there is a faint vibration between 45-50ish but that is either me being overly sensitive and looking for it, or is there....Girlfriend can't feel it, but time will tell.

Gonna drain and refill at the end of the month again and see what the fluid looks like after a few weeks.

I have heard reports of marked improvements after a couple of refills, so I will take a view on if to change the fluid again at the end of Feb too...

Keep them fingers crossed!!

Well I suppose time will tell! I am not an expert at all, so don't really thing I should be telling one what I think is best for an auto gearbox. Thats great saint, hope this will mean an end to your problems. Looing back my car did judder at around 45/50, like it couldn't decide which gear to select. Now I dont get any of that :)

She is still behaving herself- noticeably smoother changes and the change points now seem more intuitive. Here's to another 90k miles of gearbox trouble free miles!
