My disco 2 doesn't have sunroof's, so it has the panels blanked off where the usual electric switch(es) would be... I've decided to mount my satnav on the switch blank, and want to be able to wire it up to a positive when the ignition is on... I've remove the blanking plate and there are a number of wires hidden away there, I'm wondering if it's got the same loom as models with sunroof's can I use that positive ? and anyone know which wire it would be ???

Cheers.

Mike.

Wiring looms tend to be standard across a model, cheaper to produce on one frame rather than lots of different styles. However although you have the wire you may need its fuse installing in the fusebox to get the power.

There is one up there, I used it for my CB power, Cant remember what it was colour wise, just put a test lamp on it thrun the ignition on and off to see if its swicthed, and dont use the internal light ones , as that will turn off when the doors closed.

If you don't have sunroofs, then the connectors for the the sunroof switches and ECU are probably not there. Not that they'd be of much use to you, as the Sunroof Switches switch ECU signal wires to earth.

There will probably be a connector for the ACE Accelerometer, again - of no use for your purpose.

The connectors you're looking for (which may or may not be there, depending on spec. :( ) are for the Rear-View Mirror or the 'Home Link' (garage opener, for lazy Americans)

These both have an igniton-switched live (on the same fuse as the Cigarette Lighter Socket) and an Earth in their connectors.

The Ignition-Switched Live is on a Light Green/White Trace wire (LGW)

The Earth is on a Black wire (B)

The Green/Brown Trace wire (GN) in the Rear-View Mirror connector is from the Reverse Switch and is only live when reverse gear is selected.

Here's what you're looking for -

On a DII, that's not the case.

The Interior Lamp has two power feeds to it -

One on a Purple/Blue Trace wire (PU), which is controlled by the BCU and SHOULD NOT be used to power accessories.

The other is on a Purple wire (P), which is a permanent live, fed from Fuse 20 (15 Amp) in the Passenger Compartment Fuse Box and can be used to power accessories.

Afternoon All,

I have been following the discussion interesting in finding switched 12v supply in the roof.

Great to head what Paul said about the rear view mirror/homelink....

I have found the wires, testing would suggest no activity. The cig lighter supply is fine, so not the fuse. Perhaps a fault with the dipping rear view mirror? How could I test the mirror? Only recently had the car so might be it was never working.

Could someone offer help, which fuse would deliver to the rear view mirror and the connector C0698??

Many thanks,
Nick

In Park for the tests, autobox....

I tested the Green/White trace, thinking +ve, and Black thinking -ve.

Suggests no voltage when the cig lighter is active and working (charging my mobile).

Any clues?

Thanks....

Yeah, I have checked fuse 15, 25 and 26 and all seem ok.

Like I said, the cig lighter is working, so I understand the wire should be live too.

I will have to do some more fault finding...

Any suggests on how I might test the mirror is working? I dont know what I am looking for it to do to know its working and thus getting power from somewhere.

Cheers,
Nick
