Time to show utter ignorance...

In the attached photo, not mine, i have outlined a pulley. In my 110 the device that is behind that pulley is loose on the frame and needs tightning up - if i shake the pulley the whole device moves, the pulley is still securely fatsend to its own thing...whatever it is. Trouble is, im not sure whats behind it or how it fastens to the engine frame. I know how to loosen the belts and get them off but what awaits? Is it just secured with through bolts or am i looking for something else?

If you’re talking about what that pulley is driving, it will likely be your power steering pump
 
Sorry, its a 200tdi.

Thanks Meego. I THOUGHT it was either PS pump or alternator. Is the pump fastened using simple through bolts, case the frame?

The PAS pump will be mounted to that plate with the slots you can see. You use a 1/2 strong bar in the square hole you see to tension the belts. The PAS pump will have the fluid pipe attached to it.
 
Looks like the power steering pump is loose on its mounting plate from what is said in the OP.
I would agree but need OP to confirm if the pulley and pump are loose in relation to the flat metal plate or if the whole plate is loose (less likely).
But for the op here is what makes up the pas pump and the flat plate for tensioning the belt. It looks like it is actually four bolts holding the pump in place on the flat plate. But to get to them you you probably have to remove the three bolt holding the pulley on.

As a side note if you do not already have one download a parts catalogue (quick google for the pdf) as it is very useful for thing like this where you want to know what is behind things and how it comes apart.

Thanks for all the fab help. The pully and pump are still together but loose from the plate on which they seem to have been mounted. The tensioned arm is still tight, so the two belts are also tight - but the pump assy is simply very loose. The mounting bolts may well have been lost.

Thanks to your kind guidance I now know I need four off m6 x 20mm bolts, my steering pump having lost all four of them.

Bolts found, after a fashion, fitted, tightened and running again. Thanks all....off to salisbury plain now to exercise Old Red (the landrover...she's old...and red)

The explosion above seems to show that only two bolts, 3 and 4, actually hold the pump to the plate. Is that right?
It takes a little bit of learning how to read the parts diagram but as you discovered it is held to the placte by 4x bolt number 3. i would oncea gain advocate for finding and downloading youself a copy as I find the parts book invaluable for things like this.

Good to hear you are back up and running and good to hear you have chosen the correct colour as well, far better than everyone else blue or green ones!
