I drove past a £250 3 door discovery on an H plate. I took it for a drive around the corner and had a quick (mistake #1) look underneath. Knew nothing of them, but bought it all the same. I live in cambridge, the 'gem' sat on four rusty wheels in Devon. She drove home and I thought - for a week I figured I'd had it a way with a bargain. Probalby a few jobs to do for an MOT, but otherwise a steel.
I removed the carpet to dry it indoors while i fixed the leaking sunroof only to discover there was nothing left of the rear floor (or inner wings). in fact all that was holding the seats in place was the carpet and a metal trim piece!
I bought a sheet of metal large enough to fill the floor but ended up using it for all the other holes I discovered and ended up buying the floor and wing pieces along with a £50 mig welder off eBay. Time to learn to weld I thought!! That was Christmas 2008. June this year the MOT passed. The coldest winter for 20 years had me in the back garden welding and grinding as i've no garage....
worth every frost bitten minute of it. and two thousand miles later, she's still doing me proud.

The three door, 1992 200tdi has now 100800 on the clock. I'm now looking for another project as it was a great six months of tinkering out in the garden. Maybe a series 2....

Even if you'd scrapped it & sold the spares, it was well worth the £250 so well done. Now that it's fixed you'll have some fun & make more when you come to sell.

I'm getting to know all about the land rover way of doing things... a sense that using a big hammer to make "adjustments" is fine so long as the hammer's not a metric one!

thanks for the support. I shall get me some mud tyres when finances allow and get me over to devils pit or somewhere. I'll try and hook up with some green lanes around the Royston area (herts) some time soon - A case of finding the time at the moment.
