It's too young. He was really great on Time Team. Such a shame. He didn't do the last series because he said it was moving away from proper archeology.

He was in and out of my life ever since my mother attended a series of evening classes he taught in about 1970. He had a distinctive yellow raincoat so he was easy to spot out on field trips. His first marriage broke up because he was always shouting out historical events that corresponded to the time on the digital clock - 14:18, 16:50 etc. and this was 'unreasonable behaviour' apparently.

Sad loss.

I liked him too, 66 is a bit to early to pop your clogs. I wonder what will happen to his jumper.

He was one of my lecturers at uni. Great chap who taught us that archaeology wasn't about places or things, but the landscape that they are within.

Cheers
